The Carrera Glassbox has been TAG Heuer's busiest canvas for the past two years. Since the domed-crystal case arrived, it has cycled through panda, reverse panda, blue, purple, teal green and black — a deliberate cadence of colorways on a single, well-judged 39mm platform. The newest entry, announced in June 2026, takes a quieter, warmer direction: a sand-beige dial paired with anthracite rally counters, fitted to a perforated calfskin strap. It is reference CBS221H.FC8366, it is limited to 500 pieces, and — unusually — it is sold only in Europe.
What "Sand" Actually Means Here
Color releases live or die on the execution, and the Sand earns its name through contrast rather than novelty. The dial is a lightly grained beige — soft, slightly matte, the tone of dry desert sand rather than champagne or cream. Against that warm field TAG Heuer sets two anthracite azuré chronograph registers at 3 and 9 o'clock, their concentric snailing catching light in a darker, cooler register than the dial around them.
That two-tone logic continues to the edges. The flange carrying the 60-second scale and the tachymeter is anthracite as well, framing the beige dial in a darker ring and giving the whole face a layered, dimensional read. Rhodium-plated faceted applied indexes and rhodium hands — filled with white Super-LumiNova — keep legibility crisp, while a black gold-plated central chronograph hand draws the eye to the timing function. A small seconds indicator and a date window share the 6 o'clock position. It is a busy dial described plainly, but in the metal the palette holds together: warm ground, cool counters, bright markers.
The Glassbox Case
The hardware underneath is the now-familiar Glassbox package, and it remains one of the better-resolved chronograph cases at this size. The steel case measures 39mm across and 13.86mm thick, finished with a mix of brushed and polished surfaces and — crucially — no bezel. Removing the bezel pushes the dial outward toward the edge of the case, which is what makes a 39mm Carrera wear with more presence than its diameter suggests.
The name comes from the crystal. The "glassbox" is a highly domed sapphire with double anti-reflective treatment, a modern reinterpretation of the curved acrylic crystals fitted to the earliest 1960s Carreras. It arcs up over the dial and bends light at the edges, lending the watch a vintage softness that a flat sapphire never could. A steel crown and pump-style chronograph pushers handle the controls, and the screw-down sapphire caseback is engraved "LIMITED EDITION XXX/500," so each of the 500 owners gets an individually numbered watch. Water resistance is rated to 100m — plenty for a chronograph built around road racing rather than diving.
The Movement: Calibre TH20-00
Inside is TAG Heuer's in-house calibre TH20-00, the automatic chronograph that has become the backbone of the modern Carrera line. It is built on the architecture that matters most for a chronograph: a column wheel governing the pusher action and a vertical clutch engaging the timing seconds. That combination is what gives the start/stop a clean, positive feel and stops the central seconds hand from stuttering when you trigger it.
The TH20-00 beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour (4Hz) and carries roughly 80 hours of power reserve — enough to sit through a weekend off the wrist and still be running on Monday morning. It drives hours, minutes, central chronograph seconds, a running small seconds, and the date. For a watch at this level, the spec sheet reads as genuinely competitive: column wheel, vertical clutch, and a three-day reserve are not givens in the chronograph segment.
Strap, Fit and Wearability
The Sand ships on a beige perforated calfskin strap — a racing-glove reference that suits the dial's tone and reinforces the Carrera's motorsport DNA. It closes on a steel folding clasp with double safety push-buttons and an engraved TAG Heuer shield, so there is no fiddling with a pin buckle and no risk of the watch slipping off mid-drive.
On the wrist, this is the easiest format the Carrera comes in. At 39mm with a bezel-free case, the watch reads larger than the number on the spec sheet, while the 13.86mm height is kept in check visually by the doming of the crystal rather than a tall, slab-sided case. The leather strap drapes more softly than a steel bracelet and drops the overall weight, which makes the Sand a comfortable everyday wear for wrists roughly in the 16–18.5cm range. It is a chronograph you can wear with a jacket as easily as with a polo.
Where It Sits in the Glassbox Lineup
The Sand is a limited, leather-strap, color-led release rather than a core catalog reference — so the comparison that matters most is against the standard panda and reverse-panda Glassbox models that anchor the line.

Mechanically and dimensionally these are the same watch. What you are choosing between is character: the panda variants are the high-contrast, classically sporty read, while the Sand is the warmer, more relaxed, more dressed-down interpretation of exactly the same package — with the added pull of a numbered, region-locked run.
Price and Availability
The TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph Glassbox Sand is limited to 500 pieces for the European market and priced at EUR 7,900. The Europe-only distribution is the headline caveat: collectors outside Europe will need to buy through European channels, and the 500-piece cap means the warmest, quietest Glassbox to date is also one of the harder ones to actually get.
It is a familiar TAG Heuer move — take a strong, settled platform, dress it in a considered new palette, and make it scarce. On the Glassbox, that formula keeps working, and the Sand may be the most wearable expression of it yet.
